A picture of 6th and Edgmont Aves. about 1950. My mom took me to Chester to shop all the time before they began building malls in Delco
Note: Many people are unaware that South Chester at one time was a separate boro from what is now Chester City Boro. The two boros went round and round before they finally agreed to merge in 1898. See the article below.

CHESTER TIMES
BOROUGH’S LAST DAY
South Chester Will Be a Part of the
City Tomorrow
The Court Will Take Action
Lawyers A.B. Geary and W. S. Sykes sent word to the
appellants in the annexation proceedings this morning that their “sun was
setting” and wanted to hear what they proposed doing in the matter. There will be no appeal. Circumstances over which a majority of the
appellants have no control will prevent them from taking one. They have no money for the purpose. Some of them have the heart, but others will
not come to time. At sundown tonight
South Chester borough will be no more, but will have become a ward of the city
of Chester. Some legal action will be
necessary to have the injunction dissolved.
This will come before Judge Clayton, in chambers, as soon as Mayor Black
arrives home.
The injunction dissolved Burgess Hare will turn over all
property in his possession to the Mayor and South Chester will then be decreed
by the Court as no longer in existence.
It will be made one ward of the city.
The
anti-annexationists say that after Judge Clayton has fixed on election places
and officers, that he will then appoint members of Council and the School Board
to serve until such time as an election can be held. This proceeding will take place either
tomorrow morning or Monday. The chances
are that it will not be until Monday.
