Concord Township Historical Society
announces
its 2013 Holiday House Tour,
which will take place on Saturday, December 7, from 1PM to 5PM.
General admission $15.00, Society members, paid up for 2013, $10.00
On December 7, 2013, from 1-5 PM, unique Concord Township private residences and two
businesses will open their doors for participants to get a closer look inside.
• Purchase tickets at the Society headquarters at 659 Smithbridge Road, which is the
early home to two prominent township families and houses the Society’s museum, which
is under renovation for a spring 2014 opening.
• The founding symbol of the Society is also open, home to two families who worked at
one of the early mills in the township.
• The Newlin Mill is opening their Miller’s House for us, which was built in 1739 in order to
attract a miller for this early mill.
• We are thrilled to have a National Register home on our tour this year. It is significant
not only for its architecture but its early families who forged our township history.
• Not the least is a home in the Underground Railway, which touts interesting architecture
during its almost two centuries of evolution.
• A first for us is a 1940’s cottage, built for the farmer’s son as part of the farming
operation.
• This year’s ‘twist’ is a newly built barn for 10 horses, built by the Amish in 2009, and
exemplifies old construction techniques.
• The tour finishes at a winery where a complimentary glass of mulled wine tops off the
tour!

Saturday, December 7, 2013, 5:00 to 9:00 pmAnnual Wassail PartyMembers and friends of the Newtown Square Historical Society are invited to attend an Annual dinner at the Paper Mill House Museum, Dec. 7th, 5:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Our inflation fighter price continues to be $15 thanks to the many members and friends contributing their homemade specialties. A Parking lot is available behind the Museum just off St. Davids Road, past the entrance to Paper Mill Road. After parking, follow the secure winding trail over the creek bridge and up to the front door. The museum, located on the corner of Paper Mill & St. Davids Roads can best be approached by way of Route #252, turning onto St. Davids, to avoid a bridge problem on Darby Creek Road. Step back into the past and enjoy an old fashioned, homemade style dinner, complete with beverage and delightful pies, cakes, and holiday cookies. The Mill House will be decorated, heated, and music will be provided for your pleasure. A horse drawn carriage is optional. No matter how you get there, you will be greeted with a smile when you enter Newtown Square's very own historic zone, beautifully lighted & decorated to reflect the Season's history.
