House Tour, Wassail party and some Swedish Trim

The Media Hotel now gone, any memories?

On December 6, 2014, from 1-5 PM, Concord Township historic residences and area churches will open their doors for participants to get a closer look inside.
Historic homes include the John Hannum home, one of the oldest in the township, and the Nicklin-Trimble Home, featuring a recently added kitchen with period touches.  Our churches include Elam United Methodist Church original Chapel, and St. John’s Episcopal Church, which was built on John Hannum’s land, who was originally a Quaker.  The quaint cottages of the Brandywine Summit Camp Meeting, the founding group for Elam and a National Register Historic site, have offered to open as well.
Back by popular demand… the tour ends up at one of the township’s local historical sites that is now a noted winery.  A complimentary taste of mulled wine and a special CTHS discount for purchases tops off the tour.
The tour begins with registration at the Virginia Merion DeNenno History and Educational Center (located at 659 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills PA 19342, near the Rachel Kohl Library).  This newly renovated museum space, located in the historic Pierce-Willits House, is a ”Must See” if you have not yet experienced the 1700’s hand dug well and walk-in fireplace, and our early township history as told through maps, deeds, early schools, and furnishings, all decorated for the holidays!   Also featured is our Farm Life area, showcasing our early dairy heritage with 85 milk bottles and other farm equipment indicative of our agrarian past.
Upon check-in, participants will receive their Tour Map and wrist-band as this is a self-guided tour.  Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at the Museum from 12:30- 3 PM.  Prices are  $15 per person / $10 for members.
