Join Sue on October 4th to learn the "History of Tea" followed by a hands-on workshop where you can concoct your own special tea blend (tea bags included) that you can take home and enjoy with friends and family.  Whether your favorite tea is black, green or herbal (berries & nuts included in herbal) there will be a great selection of hot teas to taste as well. 
There will be handouts with information on each herb that we will be using. In Colonial times a number of herbs had medicinal properties. Please note that only a few of the herbs that we have are NOT recommended for pregnant women and they will be marked. 
Limit 15 participants. Cost is $20.00 per person ($10.00 for members & volunteers).

Nitre Hall, built about 1810, served as the “Home of the Powder Master” and headquarters of the gunpowder manufacturing business located and operating in this Powder Mill Valley until about 1840. The Nitre Hall gunpowder works was second only to Delaware’s DuPont works in the manufacture of gunpowder during the Way of 1812. The Nitre Hall building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves today as the home of the Haverford Township Historical Society.
Note that this stretch of Karakung Drive is closed to motor traffic on Sundays. Parking is available by the SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line’s Beechwood/Brookline station

Festivities begin at the Historic Plank House at 12:30PM

The day will begin at 12:30 with a brief tour and discussion of the historic 18th century Plank House which the Marcus Hook Preservation Society is raising funds to restore.
At 1:00PM a brief ceremony will be held. It will begin at the Plank House and will walk 1 block to St. Martin’s Cemetery where we will honor the patriots from Marcus Hook who are buried there.
Following the ceremony at the cemetery, we will walk 1 block to the Community Center where Mr. Andrew Miller, a graduate of Villanova University with a MA in History, and who is a full-time History Instructor at Neumann University, will offer a presentation on the Revolutionary War. Mr. Miller is the Founder and Advisor to the University History Club and has also developed courses on the American Revolution, Civil War and many other topics. Mr. Miller has been the featured speaker at various public libraries and historical societies including Middletown Free Library, Swarthmore Public Library, Rachel Kohl Public Library, Haverford Public Library, Norwood Historical Society, Springfield Historical Society and many others. His first novel The Winter Soldiers was published in 2004.

A FREE ice cream social will immediately follow the lecture.

Aston Township Municipal BuildingThe Society is privileged to present 2 noted speakers/historians on this Revolutionary night!
Michael C. Harris, author, educator and tour guide who has worked for the National Park Service will present a power point talk on General James Grant during the Battle. General Grant's troops were the first to camp in Aston! Mr. Harris' interesting book will be available for purchase afterwards.
Nancy Webster is a popular local speaker who has been an educator, tour guide, preservationist and re-enactor who has worked for the County Planning Department. Ms. Webster will speak about the Battle itself and its resulting affect on the area.
