World War Two War Housing and weekend Events

Warren Bocard of Kentucky, was kind enough to send this picture of the trailer his family lived in during WW2. He is not sure where, but it was in Woodlyn-Ridley Township. I'm not sure myself, but I believe it was either Derwood or Kinder Park. Any information anyone has, please contact me so I can forward it to Warren.

Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation
at Ridley Creek State Park
Admission is 8.00 for adults and 8.00 for children. Children under 4 are admitted free.
The dark dreary days of winter are behind us. It is spring and the folks at the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation invite you to join them in the beginning of our 39th season with a Spring Fun Day for the whole family. Kids of all ages can participate in games, races, activities, and craft making. Find a needle in the hay stack and roll down the hill on our hay slide. All the farm animals will be there. It is old fashion fun with no electronic games or devices. Enjoy a day in the country that is close to home.

The event will take place at St Paul's Lutheran church located at the Corner of East Plumstead and Congress Avenues in Lansdowne, PA.  Entrance is on Congress Avenue.  This is the main fundraiser for the historical Swedish log cabin in Drexel Hill.   Punch and Nibbles will be served at 5:30 PM and dinner is at 6:00 PM.  Come and enjoy "bottomless" bowls of artsoppa (pea soup), Swedish breads and cheese, dessert and coffee or tea.  There will also be a 50/50 drawing at the dinner and you need to be present to win.   The cost is $15 per person.
Checks should be made out to "friends of the Swedish Cabin" and sent to Bob Scott at 316 Owen Avenue, Lansdowne, PA  19050.  Please call Grace Conran at 610-237-8064 with questions or for additional information.  This event usually sells out so please make your reservations today to avoid any disappointment!

Springsteen,The Colonial Plantation, Marple and Thornbury Townships

The answer to the Bruce Springsteen question is Morton Boro. When watching the video " Born in the USA" look for the man making a muscle that has the U.S. Marine emblem on his bicep and look over his shoulder. When you look, you will see the Morton Amvets Post on Morton Ave. with a sign stating such. The man is Kelly Distillo who ran Kellys Texaco on Woodland Ave. in Springfield just past Powell Rd. He ran it from the 1970's till about 1990. Kelly never told anyone about it and incredibly when the video came out no one noticed the AM Vet sign or Kelly himself. His business was just a few blocks from Springfield High School where many students got gas and not one recognized him. A little know Rock & Roll fact.
