Dear Friend of the Plantation,
With Thanksgiving now past and only a few short weeks left in 2012, we at the Plantation begin to focus not on events and school groups but rather on what may be a long and hard winter ahead. After securing our historic buildings, our top priority is the welfare of the animals which truly make the plantation what it is. Can you imagine our historic farm without its farm animals?
Every year is a challenge as we look at rising costs both in feed and veterinary care. However the winter of 2012-13 is especially worrisome as donations to our Animal Fund have been dramatically down while costs have continued to rise. Of particular concern is the prediction that feed costs will escalate even higher due to the impact of the summer’s drought in so many regions of this country.
Farmer David has estimated that we will need approximately $25 per day to ensure that the horse, young steer, pigs, fowl and sheep are properly fed and cared for over the winter months.
We need your help. All monies raised through this appeal will go directly into the Animal Fund for the maintenance of the farm’s animals. Please give what you can and know that we will be grateful for your help.
If you wish to make a donation in honor of a friend or family member for a birthday or other special occasion, please indicate that on the donation form. We will send a card to the honoree acknowledging your thoughtfulness.
Thinking ahead to the holidays - Do you donate to a charity in lieu of holiday gift giving? If you donate to the Animal Fund, we will be posting a Holiday card on our website appropriate for printing and giving to those special people.
If we have your current email address, you may also receive this letter via email. We want to reach out to as many folks as we can.

Colonial Plantation Muster and Fundraiser

Does anyone know where this building is or was? It was the Worrell Postoffice at one time..            This picture is from the 1930's. It was in the Media area.
                                                                      Thanks Keith

Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation

at Ridley Creek State Park

Since 1974 the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation has given visitors a glimpse of 18th century Pennsylvania farm life through group programming, weekend activities and outreach opportunities. Attention to detail and authenticity are the hallmarks of Plantation programs from formal tours and hands-on workshops to the “living history” approach seen by weekend visitors. Visiting the Plantation is an educational experience that is unique and unforgettable.
The Plantation is open to the general public on weekends and to groups by prior arrangements. Because the Plantation is a working farm with authentically restored unheated buildings, it is open from April into early December. Outreach programs are available year round.

County Militia.
There will be a full period encampment and light infantry and Cavalry (mounted soldiers) drills and demonstrations. The women will be working the loom, spinning and processing flax. The men will be working with wood and working in the fields. Tea will be served in the parlor and hearth cooking will take place in the kitchen.
