Colonial Plantation Wednesday Evening Program

Wednesday Evenings at the Farm

On Wednesday, August 1, the Plantation will offer another of its "Wednesday Evening at the Farm" programs. The gate opens at 6 PM, and visitors can bring their picnic dinner, blankets and chairs to enjoy a leisurely picnic before the evening's offerings get underway. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

At 7 PM local historian and author, Andy Miller, will present a program on the "Colonial Scout and his role in the American Revolution." Miller, a professor at Neumann University, has been active in bringing the world of the colonial soldier to life at historic reenactments. His presentation is enhanced through the use of historically appropriate clothing and weapons. The program will take place in the Plantation's colonial era wagon barn.
During the evening the Plantation farmhouse and the kitchen garden will be available for tours. Demonstrations taking place include textile making and long rifle firing. Of course, the Plantation's farm animals will be around for viewing.
Closing time is 9 PM. Admission is $5 per person. Children under 4 are free.

An Indian lecture in Marple this week and my program has been rescheduled

On Wednesday, August 15 the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation will offer its first ever “Wednesday Evening at the Farm” with a special presentation by local historian, Keith Lockhart. The event will be held inside the main ballroom at the headquarters at Ridley Creek State Park. This is the office for the State Park, the old Jeffords Mansion.
At 7 PM Lockhart will present a program featuring his prized collection of Delaware County postcards. Lockhart’s collection is considered the largest of its kind in the region. Take a trip through Delaware County 100 years ago when postcards were the rage! During the evening the Colonial Plantation farmhouse and the kitchen garden will be available for tours they will open at 6. Demonstrations taking place include textile making and long rifle firing. Of course, the Plantation’s farm animals will be around for viewing.
Closing time is 9 PM. Admission is $5 per person. Children under 4 are free. One fee for both events! Money to benefit the Colonial Plantation.
The Plantation is located in Ridley Creek State Park and is easily reached via Routes 3, 352, 252 or Providence Road.

"Dirty Pictures" and a concert this week

The " Dirty" pictures are 100 old pictures of Delaware County from my personal collection. I will be giving a talk and slide show of Delaware County landmarks yesterday and today. The talk will take place at Ridley Creek State Park on Wednesday. The information is below. Money to support the Colonial Plantation. Happenings at the Colonial Plantation this week

July 1st & 4th - Enjoy a picnic at the farm and celebrate our nation's birthday by hearing the Declaration of Independence and witnessing the crowds reaction. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic basket lunch or purchase refreshments. Bring a comfortable chair or blanket and enjoy the Fourth as it was celebrated years ago on a true colonial farm in Chester County.  Admission for adults is $10.00 and children (4-12) is $8.00, under 4 are free!

The Plantation will be open from 11am - 5pm both days, with last entry at 4pm.
